ChurchSalary 3.0 is excited to announce the Precise Budget & Size Report, a powerful new enhancement designed to provide Pro and Pro+ members with unparalleled control and transparency when generating salary reports.
The Precise Report app innovates on and expands the functionality of the Basic Salary Report and Hybrid Salary Report app by incorporating three key components: a histogram range slider, dynamic sample size banner, and informative tooltips.
Together, these three elements convert our salary report app into a highly customizable and data-rich tool optimized for professionals.
The Core Enhancements
At its heart, the Precise Report aims to move beyond predetermined budget and attendance categories, allowing users to define their own precise budget and size ranges. This is achieved through:
Histogram Range Slider
The interactive range slider empowers users to select precise minimum and maximum values for budget, size (attendance), and relevant experience.
In addition to giving users the ability to quickly and accurately define a custom range, the Histogram Range Slider visualizes the distribution of employees and churches. This histogram of employees and churches allows you to tailor the size and accuracy of your salary reports.
For instance, if your church's total operating budget is $345,000, the system will preload a budget range of $270K to $420K. From there, you can fine-tune that starting range based on the distribution of churches and employees, either by dragging the sliders or typing in a custom number.
Sample Size Banner
Located above the "Generate Report" button, a dynamic banner provides you with a real-time preview of the number of "similar employees serving at similar churches" that will be used to generate your report.
As you modify core criteria such as budget, position, and status, the banner will update in the background, giving immediate feedback on how changes to your criteria will impact the sample size of your report. This transparency allows users to optimize their criteria for a desired level of data accuracy.
Tooltips
Within the Precise Report app, tooltips appear when you hover over relevant figures. These tooltips display two crucial values:
- Sample Size (N): The number of employees used to calculate that specific figure.
- Margin of Error (95%): A measure of precision for each average, based on a 95% confidence interval. Percentile figures (such as the median and quartiles in the Nationwide Salary Summary section) only display the sample size.
The format of each tooltip is designed to be clear and concise. For example, "N = 104 (+/- $2,453)” means that 104 employees were used to generate that average and the confidence interval is plus or minus $2,453.
Defining the confidence interval or margin of error is complicated. All you need to know is that if we surveyed more employees the average would change, but it would almost certainly be within a range created by adding and subtracting this number from the average—e.g., $85,000 (+/-$5,000) → confidence interval of $80,000–$90,000.
How It Works in Practice
The integration of these features means that Pro and Pro+ members can now:
Create More Accurate Reports
Instead of relying on broad categories, users can set exact financial and attendance parameters that place their church in the middle of the salary range. Because your church is now in the middle of this precise range, the median and average will correspond exactly with your church.
Gauge Report Accuracy
The sample size banner and tooltips provide immediate insight into the number of employees used to generate the report and the reliability and precision of its figures.
Iterate and Refine
Users can now experiment with different budget and size ranges as many times as needed to create a report that best reflects their specific needs and desired level of precision.
Why It Matters
The Precise Budget & Size Report transforms the ChurchSalary platform into an even more robust and transparent tool for analyzing compensation. By allowing users to precisely define their data parameters and understand the underlying sample sizes and margins of error, ChurchSalary 3.0 empowers church leaders and HR professionals to make more informed and confident decisions regarding staff compensation.
